Hardin-Simmons University proudly congratulates Courtney Govea, age 22, on her upcoming graduation. This month, Courtney will earn her bachelor’s degree in graphic design and has spent her senior year working in HSU’s department of Media Services

Hailing from Salado, Texas, Courtney chose HSU not only because of its cost-effective education, but the people.

“I’ve had a love for creating since I was very little,” she responded when asked why she chose her degree field in graphic design. Courtney cited Drawing II, taught by Professor Steven Neves, as her favorite class, crediting the course in helping expand her artistic horizons while developing her drawing skills.

Courtney immersed herself in campus life throughout her collegiate years, becoming deeply involved in various student clubs and organizations. She holds a special place in her heart for Tri Phi, a student club she says she “loves dearly.” Courtney also played an active role in SABERS, one of the university’s oldest and most respected groups, known for organizing key social events at HSU. In addition, she contributed to the Baptist Student Ministry, was a First Year Mentor, and involved in HGT: Hunters, Gatherers & Travelers a group that promotes a Christ-like lifestyle while appreciating God’s creation through conservation.

However, the club she would like to give special credit to is the Steering Committee, which is a group of volunteers that help plan Stampede.

“I grew so much through that and had so much fun,” she recounted with special thanks to Director of Student Engagement, Megan McKinney.

Beyond her student activities and her role with Media Services, Courtney also juggles working at a local Abilene small business, Front Porch Coffee Co. & Bakery. where she works as a social media manager and barista. She plans to continue her role at Front Porch after graduation while expanding her photography business (check it out here), leveraging the knowledge and experiences she gained at HSU. Courtney will also step into a new role as a communications intern at Pioneer Baptist Church, further showcasing her passion for creative media and community engagement.

Courtney gave the following advice for students who have not yet graduated.

“My advice to students who haven’t graduated yet is to enjoy the small moments with friends,” said Courtney. “There will be a time you aren’t with them every day so live in the moment now! Don’t dwell on the negative but look at the positive!”

Congratulations, Courtney!
